Graduation Information 2020Graduating Students and Families:


A public health order remains in place for the need to physically distance and inhibit gatherings of more than 10 people. There are no plans at this time to resume classes before the end of June 2020.  Unfortunately, that means there will be no graduation ceremony and supper for the ECI Graduating Class of 2020 during this school year. 

To say that this is disappointing, sad, and difficult for graduates, families, and staff is an understatement.  

However, now that there is certainty regarding graduation, we can focus our planning on how to make the day/time the best we can for the graduates.   While respecting the provincial guidelines for social distancing and gatherings, there are opportunities to celebrate your success.  It will involve creativity, positivity, and working together.  Mrs. Robson will continue to work diligently with the Class of 2020 and their families to gather and explore ideas.  One thing for sure – we will be celebrating in ways that we have not done before.    

Mrs. Robson has scheduled a meeting with students and families for early next week; I encourage you to virtually attend and actively participate in the discussions. If you are not able to attend the meeting virtually, please submit your ideas to Mrs. Robson by email one day before the meeting so she can compile the information for sharing at the meeting. The focus will be on moving forward and doing what we all can to make the time a wonderful and memorable experience for the graduates.

As a school, we will create tentative plans for what a ceremony may look like when we have approval from the Chief Public Health Officer, the Minister of Education, and the Superintendent.  COVID-19 is an evolving and fluid situation. Hence, no decisions regarding time, place, dates, etc will be discussed, disclosed, or confirmed until after the suspension of classes has been lifted by the province and division.  We will communicate and have discussions with students and families regarding our plans at the appropriate time.  Please do not put Mrs. Robson in the position of trying to commit to dates and times, as she will not be able to do so.  We must follow the advice of the Public Health Officer. 

While there may not be a ceremony or dinner, there still are other important things that need to be done for students.  Recipients for scholarships and awards need to be determined, and report cards and transcripts for each student need to be completed.  Awards and scholarships will be announced on or before June 29, 2020. The Neepawa Banner, The Minnedosa Tribune, and The South Mountain Press always post our graduates’ pictures in their paper, and we will need information from you that goes along with your picture.

Other Information:

A credit check sheet was sent home with report cards for each student.  Students need 30 credits to graduate that include a minimum of five Grade 12 subjects (Grade 12 English, Math, and Physical Education are mandatory, plus two other Grade 12 subjects). 

It is expected that students carry on with their learning and assignments.  There are no provincial exams, but teachers may have final assessments for their classes. 

The last day of classes for the Grade 12’s is Monday, June 8, 2020.  All assessments and class work need to be completed by Friday, June 12, 2020.

Students that are planning on attending post secondary school still need to be sure to follow the guidelines with respect to registration.  Students also are encouraged to continue to apply for scholarships and bursaries.  Mrs. Collyer has been keeping students up-to-date re: scholarships and any questions may be directed to her. 

Also sent home with report cards was a form for students to complete and return.  Students are asked to provide information that Mrs. Collyer and Mrs. Robson need for scholarships, awards, and the newspaper.  Since this form was sent home, Mrs. Collyer has had some questions from students.  She has sent a revised copy to students – one that can be filled in and returned.

There will be two more scheduled times for students to pick up schoolwork packages.  Wednesday, May 6 and Thursday, May 7 are the next pick up dates, and the dates for the final schoolwork packages are Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 28.

Students or families may drop off school work for teachers Monday – Friday between 9:00 a.m.  – 3:30 p.m. There is a blue bin on the front steps of the school.  Before you put your work in the bin, please make sure your name and the teacher’s name is on your work and that it is stapled or paper clipped together.
