Residential School Awareness

Residential School Awareness

Residential SchoolOn October 15, 2018 the Grade 8 students at Erickson Collegiate Institute hosted an event to promote awareness of the Residential School Legacy in Canada and Reconciliation. From 11:30 am - 1:30 pm they welcomed the public to the school for a Residential School Awareness Tea.
Community

Parents, community members, and IRS (Indian Residential School) support workers from West Region Treaty 2 & 4 Health Services had the opportunity to visit with the students, view all the work they've done, and offered knowledge to the students as well.

This Residential School Awareness event wrapped up a six-week cross-curricular unit the Grade 8 studied on Residential Schools and Reconciliation in Canada. In the six weeks the students completed a book study on Indian Horse, completed research projects on a Residential School in Canada, how Residential Schools affected people from a scientific perspective, the 94 Calls to Action, and planned this event as a group.
